Dave Elman, born David Kopelman in North Dakota in 1900, discovered the power of hypnosis after his father's cancer diagnosis. As a teenager, he was a vaudeville performer where he became known as "The World’s Youngest and Fastest Hypnotist". He had the ability to keep audiences engaged during his performances. Years later, he realized the potential of hypnosis in medicine. Elman also had a successful career in radio, creating popular programs like "Hobby Lobby" and "War Bond Auction" which generated significant funds for the war effort and earned him recognition from the government. He passed away in 1967, leaving behind a legacy as a pioneer in the field of hypnosis.

When people talk about great hypnotists of the 20th century, two names come to mind.
Milton Erickson…and Dave Elman.
They have equal stature!
This is surprising because Erickson published dozens of books and papers on hypnosis and was actively promoted by his followers who wrote dozens of books about Erickson.
In fact, Elman published only one book, "Findings in Hypnosis which was later published as "Hypnotherapy".
Why is Dave Elman held in such high esteem? His techniques are that good!
Erickson’s inductions could take a very long time.
Elman would place a subject into deep trance in less than 4 minutes!

“I have been studying hypnosis for the past 10 years and use it daily in my clinical practice. I have literally hundreds of books and training videos on the subject. I am frequently asked by others interested in learning hypnosis what books or references they should invest in. “Hypnotherapy” by Dave Elman is hands down my number one recommendation. This book focuses on the underlying principles and the techniques of hypnosis that provide practitioners with the essential base line understanding, knowledge and skills necessary to successfully use hypnosis in a clinical setting. Owning this book is essential if you want to understand and practice the art of clinical hypnosis”.
